Engine or Transmission Bad?

Joseph Coupal - Friday, May 31, 2013

Don't spend thousands fixing a worn out vehicle,
sell it to DamageMAX as-is and get yourself a new ride!

If your car is older than 2005 or has more than 85,000 miles, chances are its worth more "as-is" than the cost of the repair itself!

When a vehicle is sold for parts, the most sought after components are the engine and the transmission. First off, they make the car "move" and give the vehicle it's value. As a rule, a vehicle that can be used for transportation is always worth more than a vehicle that will be sold for parts. When the engine or transmission go bad, your out-of-pocket investment is several thousand dollars just to make it worth "average" book value. If your vehicle has a bad engine or a bad transmission, you can throw "book value" out the window – its a parts car!

If you don't owe any money on the vehicle you still have equity, even if it's inoperable. Just because it doesn't drive, doesn't mean it's not worth anything. DamageMAX pays top dollar for damaged, broken and inoperable vehicles anywhere. Here's a great example:

2003 Nissan Murano SL – bad transmission

Value of your car with bad transmission = $0
Cost of used Transmission = $3000
Value after repair = ?
DamageMAX Purchase Price = $3,100

EASY CHOICE! Sell your car to DamageMAX!

DamageMAX buys broken vehicles for top dollar and we can help get your last bit of equity from that older high mileage car.

Why Everyone Hates Storage Yards

Joseph Coupal - Friday, May 24, 2013

If there ever was an industry that needs a makeover, it's the towing and storage industry.

Talk about despicable people doing unethical things to the american public. Not just the public, the government, insurance companies, banks, rent-a-car companies, etc. If you can drive it, ride it or fly it, these people will find a way to weasel their way into your life and seize your vehicle asset and hold you hostage. What adds insult to injury is that these agencies are sanctioned by local government municipalities to commit the offenses that we all must tolerate. More specifically, these folks have a license to a certain stretch of roadway and can charge exorbitant tow fees, admin fees, storage fees, impound fees, usage fees and they even make up information to get more money from you. Some cities give these operations the right to demand cash and then coyly tell you too bad! Cash payment required or we just keep your car and "oh by the way, we are gonna keep charging you $50 per day until you come up with the cash". What about people that don't have collision coverage and can't produce the cash to get their car our of storage? What is their option? They can't use a credit card even?

Their option is to "lose their vehicle to the storage yard"! Yes folks, it happens thousands of times per day and millions of times per year. Many people are forced to walk away from their vehicle in favor of relief from storage and the government enables this whole process.

Something has to change and that change is DamageMAX!

Who Says Crime Doesn't Pay? Highway Robbery in Houston

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, May 23, 2013

Just yesterday we bought a customer's wrecked Volvo in Housto. He had no collision coverage and his vehicle was towed from the scene via police dispatch. We consulted with the customer and agreed upon a purchase price for his wrecked car in minutes and started working on the release of the vehicle. Storage & tow yards in Houston are known for their predatory business practices with consumers, but what we experienced was outrageous!

The owner of the vehicle went down to the shop to pay the charges and get the vehicle released. After signing the proper forms, he was told that he had to pay several hundred dollars in tow & storage charges and once he did so, he would have one hour to remove the vehicle from the property?

He asked what it would cost if he could have until noon the next day and he was told he would have to pay $150 more?

Storage yards in Houston have been given the right to gouge consumers, it seems ,as these rates & practices are sanctioned by the local jurisdiction.

While Houston is "the extreme" and one of the worst places in the country to wreck your vehicle, storage yards have been taking advantage of consumers, banks and insurance companies for years. They tow your vehicle and hold it hostage for cash payment and use predatory business tactics to get more money by refusing to release your vehicle. They do everything they can to let the storage bill mount and then demand payment. Many unfortunate consumers have no choice but to abandon the vehicle to the storage yard in exchange for relief from these charges. Most of the time, the vehicle is worth SIGNIFICANTLY more than the storage bill, or the storage yard is charging more than the legal daily limit. We have seen fabricated charges, exorbitant administrative fees, documentation fees, etc. Whatever it takes to steal your wrecked or damaged vehicle and take it to the bank!

DamageMAX is dedicated to helping consumers get cash for wrecked vehicles and we can help you beat the storage yards.

Call DamageMAX for a fast, free price quote and we can tow your car out of the storage yard, absolutely free!

Don't get taken by a storage yard! Fight back with DamageMAX and get the last laugh!

Your Wrecked Car is Not Junk

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Most people today really don't understand that their damaged or broken car is a valuable asset, even at the end of it's life. Hence the name, end-of-life vehicles or ELV's.

ELV's can be worth hundreds, sometimes even thousands of dollars and people don't know it! Most of the time, damaged vehicles are abandoned to a tow or scrap yard, or the body shop in favor of relief from storage when the broken vehicle is worth more by the pound than the tow and storage bill. Older damaged vehicles may be worth significantly more than that for the frame and VIN if sought after by collectors or someone restoring that particular type of vehicle. Later model vehicles are typically in higher demand for their undamaged components and power train if still usable.

Here is a quick guideline

Domestic Vehicles
2002 & older = $250 - $5,000
2003 – current = $1,500 and UP

Import Vehicles
2000 & Older = $250 - $7,500
2001 – current = $2,500 and UP

Drivable vehicles are worth $ more

If the vehicle has less than 100,000 miles there is a good chance that it will get fixed and put back on the road. Some vehicles are repaired with significantly more mileage if those vehicles are newer and have a substantial resale value like luxury and performance cars. There is a diminishing return that deters automobile dealers from making these repairs if the mileage is high. Mileage is the key measurement for a vehicles age and expected service life. Other factors like accident history, title brands like flood, salvage or theft and overall condition will weigh heavily on what your vehicle can be sold for in damaged condition.

The key to selling any vehicle is to find the best audience for what you have to offer. For damaged, broken and inoperable vehicles, DamageMAX is your source. DamageMAX pays MAXimum value for damaged vehicles.

CarFAX Becoming "Big Brother" with Repair Application

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, May 09, 2013

CarFAX wants your data- all of it! If it has anything to do with your automobile CarFAX will do anything to get at it.

Let's fast forward and take a look at what could happen with their new "find a mechanic" application. (Read more about there application here.)

  1. Free My CarFAX app launched
  2. Millions download and start using it to document repairs & archive maintenance records (CarFAX will access this data)
  3. Vehicle history products launched (expanded) to include service records
  4. CarFAX mass markets new product with "scare" campaign aimed at consumers - "Don't buy a car without knowing if it was properly maintained"
  5. CarFAX leverages new product to increase revenue from car dealers
  6. Consumers pay a premium for products to check for "maintenance history"
  7. Dealers recoup CarFAX expense by charging more for products & services
  8. Consumers & dealers get hurt by irregular mileage discrepancies created by repair facilities that do not enter mileage diligently
  9. CarFAX wins again!

Friends, anyone that has ever purchased a used vehicle knows that a properly maintained vehicle is worth more than one that is not. That always reflects in the condition of the vehicle. Most people maintain their vehicles, but how many keep every receipt for the day that they choose to sell or trade their vehicle? The answer is…not many. Is this concept a good one? Perhaps it is, but how much information do you want CarFAX to have? DamageMAX believes the information will be used by CarFAX for leverage against the consumer or car dealers and it will ultimately hurt the consumer two ways:

  1. Vehicle Value – will diminish as more mileage discrepancies are created and maintenance records that are not available.
  2. Consumers will be "forced" or coerced to buy a history report at a premium to feel secure about a vehicle purchase.

In conclusion, DamageMAX recommends that consumers not use the new My CarFAX application. DamageMAX thinks your local car dealer is better solution than Big Brother and they will give you a print out for free!

Don't Fix Your Wrecked Vehicle!

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, May 08, 2013

If you were "saving" money by raising your deductible or dropping insurance coverage on your vehicle to liability only, don't try to fix your car on the cheap! You can't cut corners on a collision repair and while many people try, you are spending good money after a bad cause.

Before you fix a wrecked vehicle, consider:

  1. Accident History - a wrecked vehicle usually has a CARFAX that will hurt your vehicles' value substantially. Repairing it is simply restoring a car that will never again be worth what it was before the accident. These are lost dollars that cannot be recovered. Fixing a wrecked car is a zero sum game.
  2. Paint & filler – older vehicles have paint that is extremely difficult to match and it is very visible even to the untrained eye. Paint work on a vehicle denigrates the value substantially.
  3. Cheap parts & materials – OEM recycled parts are a good choice if purchased and installed correctly. Don't use just any parts to restore your vehicle, non-OEM especially can de-value the vehicle post repair.
  4. Save now, pay later – if you saved by cutting your insurance coverage or raising your deductible you will most likely be a candidate for "saving the deductible". This is the fine art of cutting more corners and making cheap repairs to your vehicle so you may not have to write a check for your deductible. Wrong, wrong, wrong! Don't make cheap repairs to your vehicle, you get what you pay for and you will not get your money back on resale, in fact you may cost yourself an opportunity to sell your vehicle and be stuck with it – poor repairs and all! Some vehicles are best left damaged and sold.

DamageMAX pays top dollar for damaged, wrecked and inoperable vehicles. We buy any car, anywhere in the USA.

Never Drop Your Un-Insured Motorist Coverage

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Like many Americans you have been stretching your paycheck to make ends meet. You've got a great driving record so you cut back on your auto insurance to help put a little more food on the table. You thought to yourself, why would do I need uninsured motorist coverage? Everyone has insurance (right?), that premium seems like a waste of money. Now, at the worst possible time, you've been in a car accident and your insurance company can't help you. They can't help you because you were hit by an uninsured motorist that did not wait around to give you their personal information.

But you were not at fault! It does not matter - you dropped the coverage and there is no way out. Often, by the time you realize you are not covered, storage charges from the body shop or impound yard could exceed your vehicle's market value and you would have to surrender your car and title to the wrecked that towed your car away.

Just today a client came to DamageMAX with a vehicle that was destroyed by a driver in a STOLEN VEHICLE. She had basic liability coverage only with no uninsured motorist protection. The vehicle that struck her was being driven by an unauthorized driver (thief) and even though that vehicle had comprehensive insurance coverage on it, the claim was denied because an unauthorized driver was operating the vehicle.

Don't let this happen to you. But if it does, call DamageMAX. DamageMAX.com will buy your car AS-IS. You see, DamageMAX.com specializes in situations just like yours and can afford to pay you Maximum Dollar for your Damaged Vehicle. DamageMAX.com will buy any car, anywhere.

If you wrecked your car and simply just don't feel comfortable driving the car again, sell your damaged vehicle to DamageMAX.

A Flood Damaged Vehicle is No Small Problem

Joseph Coupal - Monday, May 06, 2013

Especially if it's salt water! Most of the damage will be to electrical components, computers, circuitry and sub-systems and salt water is absolutely the worst thing that can happen to an automobile. Seawater is highly corrosive to metals and will destroy everything in its path in due time. Even if the engine and transmission are undamaged, once water intrusion reaches the rocker panel and gets inside the vehicle the ECU (engine control unit) will be covered in salt water. It's toast!

Salt water is also a great conduit and hundred of people are injured as they reconnect a new battery to attempt to power up an automobile. Airbags can deploy without warning and fires can start spontaneously. Here is a great article on the impact a flood brand has on a vehicle's value.

DamageMAX buys flood vehicles anywhere and can make these vehicles and your headaches disappear.
