A recent J.D. Power and Associates survey indicates that wrecked vehicles are not being repaired right the first time. The 2013 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study (released January 2013) indicates that while insurance companies and body shops are repairing vehicles faster, the quality of repair is suffering. Contributing to lower satisfaction is a decline in the percentage of vehicles being fixed right the first time.

"While insurers have made significant progress in the past 12 months to improve the efficiency of the claims process, the repair providers have not kept pace," said Jeremy Bowler, senior director of the insurance practice at J.D. Power and Associates. "Failure to repair a vehicle correctly is critical to the customer experience as average satisfaction scores tumble over one hundred points for those who had to bring their vehicle back for repeat repairs."

Auto Insurers care about settling the claim fast and cutting their expenses. If you use their DRP the insures saves and you get nothing in return – quality drops, repair time increases, satisfaction wanes. I love it when people advertise their vehicle for sale "NO CARFAX HISTORY" or "CLEAN CARFAX REPORT" and they are selling a recently wrecked vehicle.

They will brandish a CARFAX REPORT on the vehicle and circle the Vehicle Identification Number and happily send you a copy via email. Indeed the CARFAX report will show that there are no accidents and no stigma history which would dramatically reduce resale value in the future.

NOTE: This is evidence for how CarFax Negatively impacts the value of a damaged vehicle – we said this before…

There is a slight problem however…

CarFax procures data from law enforcement, tow and other governmental agencies and there is a lag in time.

Example:

"Customer A" skids off road and hits a tree - a single vehicle accident. A tow is required to recover the vehicle. Police arrived on the scene and dispatched the recovery vehicle. Customer A decides to not report the accident to his insurance company and declares CLEAN CarFax. CarFax pulls data on vehicle tow from participating police municipality several weeks later and reports MAJOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT HISTORY – vehicle towed from scene.

In this example, the customer misrepresented the vehicle "knowingly" and they told you about it which takes them off the hook if you buy their vehicle in either damaged or repaired form. When the CarFax report comes through, don't be surprised - "CarFax Knows"!
